NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC REVEALS GROUNDBREAKING UNDERWATER SCAN UNVEILING TITANIC IN UNPRECEDENTED DETAIL, CHALLENGING LONG-HELD THEORIES AND PRESENTING FRESH INSIGHTS IN UPCOMING DOCUMENTARY SPECIAL TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION

Exclusive Access to State-of-the-Art Technology Preserves Titanic Wreck Site for Future Generations, Marking a New Era in Underwater Archeology

The 90-Minute Special, From BAFTA Award-Winning Atlantic Productions, Premieres Sunday, 13 April at 21:00 on National Geographic

Johannesburg, 9 April 2025: 14 April 2025 marks the 113th anniversary of the R.M.S. Titanic’s sinking – an event that has fuelled global fascination for over a century. National Geographic presents TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION, a groundbreaking 90-minute documentary that offers an unprecedented look at history’s most infamous maritime disaster. Using exclusive access to cutting-edge underwater scanning technology, including 715,000 digitally captured images, the special unveils the most precise model of the Titanic ever created: a full-scale, 1:1 digital twin, accurate down to the rivet. From award-winning Atlantic Productions, TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION premieres across Africa on Sunday, 13 April, at 21:00 (CAT) on National Geographic (DStv 181 and Startimes 220).

In 2022, award-winning and pioneering filmmaker Anthony Geffen and his team followed deep-sea mapping company Magellan as they undertook the largest underwater 3D scanning project of its kind, mapping the wreck 12,500 feet below the North Atlantic. Over three weeks, they worked around the clock, producing 16 terabytes of data, 715,000 still images, and 4K footage, capturing the Titanic in unparalleled detail. After nearly two years of analysis, a team of leading historians, engineers, and forensic experts, including Titanic analyst Parks Stephenson, metallurgist Jennifer Hooper, and master mariner Captain Chris Hearn, come together in TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION to reconstruct the ship’s final moments—challenging long-held assumptions and revealing new insights into what truly happened on that fateful night in 1912.

Stephenson, Hooper and Hearn dissect the wreckage up close on a full-scale colossal LED volume stage, walking around the ship in its final resting place. From the boiler room where engineers worked valiantly to keep the lights on until the bitter end to the first-class cabins where the ship ripped in two, the scan brings them face-to-face with where the tragedy unfolded.

The Juliet ROV scans the bow railing of the Titanic wreck site. (Credit: Magellan Limited/Atlantic Productions)

Notable insights include the following:

Visible Open Steam Valve
The team discovers a steam valve in the open position, validating eyewitness accounts that the ship’s engineers remained at their posts in boiler room two for over two hours after impact, keeping the electricity on and allowing wireless distress signals to be sent. The 35 men may have saved hundreds of lives while sacrificing their own.

Hull Fragments
Sifting through the hull fragments scattered across the wreck site, the team reconstructs them like a puzzle, providing a startling glimpse into the ocean liner’s final moments. The Titanic didn’t split cleanly in two—it was violently torn apart, ripping through first-class cabins where prominent passengers like J.J. Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim may have sought refuge as the ship went down.

First Officer William Murdoch
Further analysis of the digital scans adds to the evidence exonerating First Officer Murdoch, long accused of abandoning his post. The position of a lifeboat davit—seen in new hi-res detail—suggests his crew was preparing a launch moments before the starboard side was engulfed, corroborating Second Officer Charles Lightoller’s testimony that Murdoch was swept away by the sea.

The 90-minute special also examines in stunning detail the 15-square-mile debris field, rich with hundreds of personal artefacts, including pocket watches, purses, gold coins, hair combs, shoes and a shark’s tooth charm, offering a poignant glimpse into the lives lost. Historian Yasmin Khan and the team connect these items to their original owners. Scans also reveal the wreck’s alarming deterioration, with iconic areas of the wreck already collapsing. However, thanks to this digital twin, the Titanic is preserved in perfect detail as it appeared in 2022, securing its place in history for generations to come and marking a new era in underwater archaeology.

TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION is produced by Atlantic Productions for National Geographic. For Atlantic, Anthony Geffen produces, Lina Zilinskaite is the senior producer, and Fergus Colville is the director. Simon Raikes and Chad Cohen serve as executive producers for National Geographic.

South African performers feature in local episodes, featuring incredible acts of magical performance

Johannesburg, 20 March 2025: In celebration of the launch of the new National Geographic series DAVID BLAINE: DO NOT ATTEMPT, which features an episode shot entirely in South Africa, The Walt Disney Company Africa hosted a launch event in Johannesburg this week. On Tuesday 18 March, 100 press, content creators and advertising sales partners were transported to a magical world inspired by the programme, filled with optical illusions, interactive exhibits, photo opportunities and engaging installations, before previewing the much-anticipated locally filmed installment.

This six-part series follows world-renowned magician and endurance artist David Blaine exploring the world through the lens of magic. In Mzansi, the magician meets local artists, trailblazers and performers, including Muzi (aka Muziwakhe Mazibuko), Kayla (Kaylin Oliphant) and Sam Sam (Samkeliso Samsam Thubane), all of whom were present at the event.

Muzi led Blaine, as his guide, around South Africa during production and contributed three songs for the episode. Kayla and Sam Sam choreographed and performed an incredible car-spinning stunt performance with Blaine. The audience was enthralled by the episode, which included jaw-dropping magical moments, spanning over various provinces, epitomising the title “Do Not Attempt.”

Before watching the episode filmed locally, local illusionist Wian Van Den Berg captivated guests with sleight-of-hand tricks, inspired by Blaine, citing the legendary magician as a seminal influence in his development of performance magic.

Participating content creators included Adre Muller, Austin Macaskill, Danny Painter, Jo Judnick-Wilson, Marc Gregory, Mary Mutlanyane, Nafisa Akabor, Pitsi Africa, Rozanne McKenzie, Simone Dominique, Tansey Coetzee, Taryn Louch and Zuraida Jardine.

Premiering each Friday at 18:50 (CAT) from 28 March on DStv 181 and Startimes 220, DAVID BLAINE: DO NOT ATTEMPT will also be available on Disney+ in South Africa. In the series, Blaine takes us on a fascinating cultural exchange and a jaw-dropping journey through extraordinary cultures, where he meets with performers and masters—kindred spirits who inspire and share with him exceptional skills (and secrets)—in Brazil, Southeast Asia, India, the Arctic Circle, South Africa and Japan.

DAVID BLAINE: DO NOT ATTEMPT is a celebration of pushing boundaries safely and responsibly, rooted in years of training, preparation and a process of refinement. Viewers are reminded that professionals do all of the feats shown in the series with safety teams to prevent any accidents. None of the activities from the series should ever be practised.

Johannesburg, 7 March 2025: There are more than 3,000 species of snakes on the planet and these mysterious creatures are found everywhere except in Antarctica, Iceland, Ireland, Greenland, and New Zealand. Contrary to popular belief, only approximately 600 species are venomous, and only about 200—seven percent—are able to kill or significantly wound a human.

Snakes play a key role in the ecosystem by controlling rodents and pests, and increased awareness can help increase our understanding of these elusive creatures. National Geographic Wild (DStv 182, StarSat 221) dedicates the month of March to understanding distinct snake species that live in a wide variety of habitats, with snake-focused specials airing every Saturday at 18:00 (CAT).

Programming includes:

Snake City: Snakes in the City Venomous Face-Off, Sunday 9 March at 18:00

Snake City: Snakes in the City Venomous Face-Off, Sunday 16 March at 18:00

Sioux and Mbali face a feisty black mamba while Simon wrestles another one himself. So many calls are coming in that the team must split up.

Snake City: Baby Snakes Compilation, Sunday 23 March at 18:00

A Snake City compilation special with the best of all the baby snakes.

Killer Snakes: Sunday, 30 March, at 18:00

The two-episode instalment of the global phenomenon features Holy Week, the most pivotal week in biblical history and will be played as a double-bill in cinemas.

Last week, the series’ creator and executive producer Dallas Jenkins and star Jonathan Roumie revealed The Chosen: Last Supper (Season 5) key art with portraits photographed by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, much to the delight of fans worldwide.

THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER

The table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.

ABOUT THE CHOSEN

The Chosen is a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie), seen through the eyes of those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season series shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings. What started as a crowd-funded project has grown to over 280 million viewers and more than 17 million social media followers.

Viewers across Africa can catch the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles live on ESPN as they battle for a historic three-peat!

Johannesburg, 4 February 2025: ESPN, the undisputed home of America’s premier sporting leagues, is the exclusive broadcaster in Africa of one of the greatest sporting events on the calendar: The NFL Super Bowl. This year, viewers across the continent will be able to tune in live on both ESPN and ESPN2 on Monday, 10 February at 01:00 (CAT).

The much-anticipated showdown will see the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles in the 59th Super Bowl, #ESPNAfricaSuperBowlLVIII. Fans can expect a game filled with grid-iron action, strategy, and unforgettable moments as the two conference champions battle for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. This year’s Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome, home to the New Orleans Saints, with a capacity of 83,000 spectators. This marks the 11th time New Orleans has hosted the event.

Can the Kansas City Chiefs make history?

This epic match showcases two titanic teams who’ve both made very recent trips to the championship. In Super Bowl 59, the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles, their Super Bowl opponent from two years ago, in a rematch for the books. This showdown also features some of the most celebrated stars in the league – like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in the Chiefs, and Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley for the Eagles – facing off on the biggest stage in the NFL.

No team has ever won three consecutive Super Bowls. Many teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls, but the Chiefs now have a chance to become the first to achieve historic three-peat success.

Who is performing at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show?

The Super Bowl halftime show, a 12- to 15-minute musical extravaganza and one of the most coveted slots on the American music calendar, will feature Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar. The 37-year-old Lamar, from Compton, the heart of the Los Angeles rap scene, has 17 Grammy wins and previously performed during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige. Past Super Bowl halftime performers include The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Beyoncé. Last season’s performance featured Grammy-winning artist Usher.

The controversial documentary, NUMEC: HOW ISRAEL STOLE THE ATOMIC BOMB AND KILLED JFK, dives deep into one of the most contentious chapters in modern history, presenting a narrative that questions the ethical and geopolitical dynamics shaping the world post-World War II. Available for free on Rumble, this film is made possible by contributions from ANC Report members and donors. It promises a hard-hitting investigation into allegations of arms smuggling, nuclear proliferation, and the implications for U.S. sovereignty.

The documentary chronicles how, after World War II, surplus weapons became a goldmine for black-market profiteers. It explores the alleged connections between arms trafficking, the establishment of the Israeli state, and the unauthorized transfer of highly enriched uranium for nuclear weapons. The film implicates Zionist factions in manipulating post-war vulnerabilities, creating channels not only for arms smuggling but also human trafficking, exploitation of refugees, and even the establishment of international blackmail operations.

By allegedly weaponizing the Holocaust narrative to shield their actions, these networks purportedly silenced critics, rendering political and law enforcement resistance nearly impossible. The film also links these operations to larger geopolitical consequences, including U.S. involvement in conflicts that ostensibly served Zionist interests over American ones.

While provocative, this documentary demands a discerning eye. It challenges audiences to reflect on the tangled web of geopolitics, organized crime, and moral compromises that have shaped international relations. The accusations are serious and controversial, touching on issues of sovereignty, ethics, and the unchecked growth of power.

Highlights:

The rise of black-market arms and uranium trafficking post-WWII.

Alleged connections between organized crime, political cover-ups, and Zionist factions.

The role of international networks in human trafficking and blackmail schemes targeting influential figures.

The purported loss of U.S. sovereignty in foreign policy, tied to the influence of Israeli and Neoconservative agendas.

NUMEC: HOW ISRAEL STOLE THE ATOMIC BOMB AND KILLED JFK is more than just a historical documentary—it is a call to critically examine the forces that have shaped global power dynamics. It serves as both a stark warning and an invitation for viewers to delve deeper into the darker recesses of history.

Fans in North West expressed excitement but frustration and anger when Makhadzi, one of South Africa’s most celebrated artists, failed to appear at a scheduled event. The incident led to chaos as fans expressed their discontent, raising questions about artist accountability and event management.

The much-anticipated event, held in North West, promised a night of electrifying performances, with Makhadzi as the headliner. However, attendees were left disappointed when the artist did not show up. Reports suggest that tensions escalated, with fans setting parts of the stage alight in protest.

According to Makhadzi Entertainment, the no-show was due to the promoter’s failure to fulfil agreed-upon payment terms. The promoter, identified as Ismael, had committed to a fee of R180,000 for her performance, with a 50% deposit required before promotional activity and full payment 14 days prior to the event. While the deposit was received, the balance was not paid within the specified timeframe, leading to Makhadzi’s decision not to perform.

Event organizers have yet to issue a formal statement addressing the payment dispute or the subsequent chaos. The absence of clear communication has only fueled speculation about what led to the debacle. Many fans have taken to social media to voice their frustrations, with some demanding refunds and others criticizing the lack of professionalism.

Makhadzi has apologized to her fans in North West for the disappointment caused by her non-appearance. While her loyal supporters remain divided, this incident has highlighted ongoing challenges within South Africa’s entertainment industry, from mismanagement to inadequate crisis communication. Fans are calling for better coordination between artists and event organizers to prevent such incidents in the future.

The no-show by Makhadzi has sparked a debate about the responsibilities of artists and organizers alike. As fans wait for clarity, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability in the entertainment industry. Will this be a turning point for better event management or just another controversy swept under the rug?
