Unmasking Misinformation: How a Peace Conference on the New World Order Became a Conspiracy Theory

Critiquing-the-New-World-Order

In the age of viral misinformation, it takes little more than an out-of-context video clip to ignite baseless conspiracy theories. The recent controversy surrounding a 1:25-minute excerpt (seen 35 minutes in) from a 7-hour video of an international conference hosted by the Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) is a prime example. Misleading captions and rampant speculation have turned a transparent discussion on global governance into fodder for fearmongering. Let’s set the record straight.

The video in question is titled FULL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE THE ‘NEW WORLD ORDER’: A RECIPE FOR WAR OR PEACE! and is available for public viewing on YouTube. Hosted by PGPF, an organization founded by former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the conference was a public forum aimed at critically examining the concept of the New World Order (NWO). Far from a secretive meeting, it was an open dialogue about how certain global governance frameworks might erode national sovereignty and lead to increased conflict.

Dr. Mahathir, a staunch advocate for peace and the criminalization of war, has long voiced concerns about the misuse of terms like “New World Order.” He and other speakers at the conference argued that the NWO could serve as a tool for powerful nations to dominate weaker ones, undermining peace and justice. Agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) were highlighted as examples of how economic policies can disguise inequitable power dynamics.

Despite the transparent nature of the event, a short clip from the 7-hour discussion—accompanied by an inflammatory caption—has been weaponized by conspiracy theorists. Claims that the conference was a secret meeting of world leaders plotting “genocide” are not only baseless but also a gross misrepresentation of the discussions. Ironically, the very people portrayed as endorsing the NWO were, in fact, its most vocal critics.

This incident underscores a critical issue in today’s information landscape: the tendency to spread misinformation without context. The creators of conspiracy theories around this video chose to ignore the full 7-hour discussion and the conference’s openly critical stance on the New World Order. Instead, they peddled fear and falsehoods, turning a public peace forum into a sinister plot.

Before jumping to conclusions, it is essential to engage with content in its entirety and exercise critical thinking. In an era of clickbait and sensationalism, the responsibility to seek truth—and to combat misinformation—rests with all of us.
