KwaZulu-Natal Family Seeks Urgent Support for Daughter

Thirteen-year-old Tyler Jade Moran of Merrivale, KwaZulu-Natal, is facing an extraordinary medical journey. Born with both Turner Syndrome and Jacob’s Syndrome, she is also unique in carrying three different sets of chromosomes, a rare condition revealed through advanced FISH testing. Cases like Tyler’s are virtually undocumented, making her story both medically exceptional and deeply concerning.

Her parents, Kevin and Hayley Moran, have fought relentlessly to provide her with the care she needs. However, after losing medical aid coverage, the family cannot meet the rising costs of vital treatment. Tyler now urgently requires:

  • Comprehensive blood tests and bone age X-rays

  • Daily diabetic injections and monthly medications

  • Hormone and human growth therapy

  • MRI scans under anaesthetic

  • Endocrinologist and surgical consultations

Time is critical. Without prompt intervention, Tyler risks missing essential developmental milestones, including puberty and growth progression, which could have long-term consequences for her health.

Tyler has already undergone 18 surgeries and numerous specialist procedures. Despite these challenges, she continues to demonstrate courage, resilience, and joy, inspiring those around her. Her story also highlights the broader struggles South African families face when accessing care for children with rare, complex medical conditions.

The family has launched a BackaBuddy campaign to cover Tyler’s medical costs: Help Support Tyler Jade. Every donation, no matter how small, goes directly to her medical care, including specialist appointments, medications, scans, and surgical procedures. Even sharing her story can help reach more supporters and raise awareness.

Tyler Moran is a remarkable young girl — resilient, loving, and extraordinarily brave. Her family’s urgent appeal serves as a reminder of the gap in support for children with rare conditions and the difference community assistance can make in giving her the healthy, fulfilling life she deserves.
