The term Gender-Based Violence (GBV) has become the dominant social crisis in South Africa. We hear it from government press conferences, UN panels, NGOs, and protests. The narrative is simple: violence against women and girls. It is repeated so frequently that questioning it seems almost heretical.

Yet when one pauses and listens to the families around us — broken homes, murdered farmers, abused boys, tormented husbands — an uncomfortable reality surfaces: violence does not care about gender.

The biblical worldview tells us something even more foundational: violence is the symptom of sin, not of masculinity. And when we design policies around ideology instead of truth, we replace compassion with politics and justice with propaganda.

Violence Is Not Gendered — Scripture Judges All Equally

At the core of the GBV narrative sits a modern philosophy: gender determines the moral hierarchy of victims and perpetrators. Politicians and funders have weaponized the idea that women are the “default victims” and men the “default oppressors.”

But the Bible refuses to play identity politics.

“You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor honor the mighty.” — Leviticus 19:15

God’s justice is blind to categories.
No gender gets a monopoly on innocence.
No group holds a monopoly on violence.

The modern ideology says, “Protect women, fear men.”
Scripture says, “Judge righteously. Protect all who suffer harm.”

The True Root of Violence: The Fallen Human Heart

The GBV narrative imagines violence as a gendered problem.
The Bible speaks bluntly:

Violence flows from the corruption of humanity.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” — Jeremiah 17:9

Cain did not kill Abel because one was male and one female.
The first murder was not gender-based; it was sin-based.

Societies crumble when they mistake spiritual decay for political categories.
Today, government panels label violence as “patriarchal” and “toxic masculine” — broad accusations that condemn millions of men, including those who are victims, fathers, and protectors.
It’s lazy.
It’s dishonest.
And it is absolutely unbiblical.

Selective Empathy Is Not Christian Compassion

Scripture commands us to defend all the vulnerable — not just the fashionable ones.

“Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” — Proverbs 31:9

A boy abused in silence is not less worthy than a girl.
A father beaten by a partner is not less human.
A farmer tortured in a remote farmhouse is not “politically inconvenient.”
A baby in the womb is not exempt from compassion.

The GBV framework tells society:

• Believe women by default.
• Ignore male suffering.
• Justify violence against the unborn.
• Label dissent as “hate.”

That is not justice.
It is ideological tribalism masquerading as morality.

When Activists Replace Law, Justice Dies

South Africa pours money into slogans, awareness campaigns, and international activism — while police stations crumble, trauma centers collapse, and forensic backlogs grow.

The Bible never assigns justice to protesters or NGO committees.
It gives the sword to lawful authority.

“For he is God’s servant for your good… he does not bear the sword in vain.” — Romans 13:4

Instead, we see:

• NGOs chasing donor money.
• Foundations funding causes that gain political leverage.
• Government outsourcing morality to activists.

Justice becomes public theater — not protection.

The Most Radical Hypocrisy: “Protect Women” While Funding Abortion

The same global institutions that cry for “women’s safety” bankroll abortion networks.
Billions are spent to defend adult women while millions of unborn girls — and boys — are killed without a burial or a name.

Scripture does not whisper about this:

“Hands that shed innocent blood… the Lord hates.” — Proverbs 6:17

The GBV ideology worships selective dignity.
The Bible protects life.

A Biblical Response To Violence

Christianity does not divide society into villains and victims based on gender.

A biblical society:

• Strengthens law
• Protects every innocent person
• Judges violence without ideological filters
• Demands repentance, accountability, and discipline

Where the GBV framework fragments society, Scripture heals it.

GBV is not a Christian doctrine.
It is a secular ideology crafted to:

• Divide the sexes
• Manufacture guilt
• Secure funding
• Reduce human suffering to gender narratives
• Justify political activism over lawful justice

Violence is violence.
Sin is sin.
And every life deserves protection.
